The White Last Supper
Herman Diephuis — After J.C. — Grand Soir #7 — Le Manège de Reims
Dance and tableaux vivants
Does contemporary dance have little time for ‘beautiful movement’? Taking the question head-on, D’après J.-C. draws its gestural vocabulary from episodes in the life of Christ depicted in Renaissance art. Madonnas and Child, Pietàs… Living pictures unfold before an audience that becomes the stationary visitor to a moving gallery.
An immaculate Last Supper
At the meal, Eucharist and consumption are superimposed in an immaculate Last Supper made of junk food, just before a performance entitled The Missing Last Supper, represented this time by twelve ESAD students gathered around a female Christ.
The meal
• Chicken burger with cheese, black radish and raw vegetables • Chilled cauliflower cream with feta • Braised-beef-flavoured popcorn • Almond marshmallow with caramel or chocolate • Meringues flavoured with Tagada strawberry sweets, raspberry or poppy.
